API 5L X52 Seamless Pipe

Double Submerged Arc Welded steel pipe or shortened as a DSAW pipe can be produced either in a straight or in a spiral welded format. The submerged welding process protects this API 5L X52 Dsaw Pipe from getting contaminated due to the presence of impurities in the air. As typically seen in a DSAW API 5L X52 Pipe, welds are performed on both inside and outside. ERW pipe or Electric Resistance Welded API 5L X52 steel pipes are produced by being cold formed from a ribbon of steel, which is then pulled through a series of rollers. After being pulled, this steel is then formed into a tube followed by being fused via an electric charge. Welded longitudinally, the API 5L X52 Erw Pipe is manufactured from either a Strip or Coil and can have an outer diameter of up to 24”.

Seamless pipes produced from API 5L X52 Equivalent Material has better pressure bearing capacity along with a higher tensile strength as compared to ERW welded steel pipe. The main purpose of using an API 5L X52 Grade B as opposed to other grades is that grade B is not only more popular, but the alloy is much stronger. Similar to the other API 5L specified products, the API 5L Grade X52 Carbon Steel Pipe has a yield strength which can be measured in PSI, which in this case could be valued at 52000 PSI. Although X52 is used to indicate the strength of these pipes, they could also be referred to as L360 Pipe, with the L360 identified as the pipes tensile strength in Mpa. Deemed to be a fitting choice for transportation of oil, gas and water, the API 5L X52 PSL2 is a strict specification pipe used by industries such as hydrocarbon, oil and natural gas industry.

Things To Remember

API 5L X52 is medium grade in API 5L and ISO 3183 specifications normally used for oil and gas pipeline transmissions. Its minimum yield strength is 360 Mpa. For grades higher or equal to X52/L360, Cu, Ni, Cr elements shall not be added on any purpose.
