ASTM A333 Grade 6 Pipe

Carbon and alloy steel pipe produced according to the ASTM A333 are designed keeping in mind their use at low temperature settings as well as for pressure vessels. The specification also states that either a seamless or a welding process is to be used while producing the ASTM A333 Grade 6 Pipe. However, with regards to the welding operation, the specification does not permit the addition of a filler metal here. The seamless and welded SA333 Pipe are to be treated in order to control their microstructure, as a result of which these pipes develop a fine grain structure with a uniform dispersion of carbide.

ASTM A333 Grade 6 Pipe

Low temperature carbon steels or simply referred to as LTCS ASTM A333 Gr 6 has a carbon content ranging between 0.20 to 0.30%, manganese between 0.70 to 1.60% and the content of silicon is between 0.15 to 0.60%. A characteristic of these pipes is that they exhibit moderate strength with toughness down to a temperature as low as -50°F. Which is why the A333 Seamless Pipe is successfully employed in those operations where refrigerants are required to be transported through a system where the temperature can go as low as -50° F. Tensile tests, hydrostatic tests, impact tests, and nondestructive electric tests are conducted on the A333 Pipe Material in accordance with requirements of the specification.

ASTM A333 Pipes are normally used in low temperature service, ASTM A333 covers nominal walled pipe which is almost exclusively available in seamless. Some Sizes are not available because of heavier wall thicknesses have an adverse effect on low-temperature impact properties
